Lux Shield is a clear, adjustable face shield on a soft headband. Wear it up like a visor or tilt it down to cover your whole face. Bluestone rates the lens UPF 50+ and says the clear lens blocks 99.95 percent of UVB and about 90 percent of UVA rays, and its heat resistant material holds its shape on the hottest days instead of bending or warping.

How to Use

Put it on before you head outside: fit the headband around your head, fasten the hook at the back, and tilt the lens down over your face or up as a visor as the light changes. Wear your sunscreen underneath every time, and reapply it as you normally would. Wipe the lens gently with a soft, clean cloth after use.

The Science

Shade is the simplest form of sun protection: a physical barrier stops ultraviolet light before it reaches skin, with nothing to rub off or reapply. A shield that comes down in front of the face covers the forehead, cheeks, nose and chin, the areas a hat brim leaves open when the sun is low.

Light also reflects up from water, sand, snow and pavement, which is why a shield works best alongside sunscreen rather than instead of it. Bluestone lists its shields as approved to ANSI Z80 for visibility and ANSI Z87.1 for droplet protection, and its tinted lenses to EN ISO 12312 for blue light.
